The Eisteddfod saw the launch of the 2011 Third Sector Awards Cymru on Monday, 1 August. The awards are the annual opportunity for charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises to nominate their own organisation and others to have their hard work rewarded.
There are four categories:
· Class award for best communications – for organisations that have an effective or innovative way of communicating their message; either internally, or with their members, service users or volunteers
· Green award – for organisations that have an innovative policy on reducing their carbon footprint; have taken steps to become more sustainable; or have taken part in a carbon footprint reducing activity.
· Health, social care and wellbeing award – for organisations that have ‘made a difference’, and helped people to be happier and healthier in their community. This could be early intervention/preventative work; maintaining independent living; self-care; or re-ablement.
· Award for the most admired organisation – for groups most respected for the causes they represent and work they do.
Supported by third sector services specialist Class Telecommunications, the winners will be presented with their awards at a gala dinner in January. Former Wales and Llanelli and Scarlets player Robin McBryde helped launch the awards, along with WCVA Chief Executive Graham Benfield and WCVA Board member and Welsh Refugee Council Chief Executive Mike Lewis.
Robin McBryde said: ‘I am pleased to be able to take part in the launch of the Third Sector Cymru Awards. There are so many deserving voluntary organisations and community groups making a real difference to the lives of people and communities in Wales. I wish WCVA every success and hope to see dozens of organisations making nominations to ensure these awards are a resounding success.’
Jonathan Levy, Class Telecommunications Chief Operating Officer and supporter of the Third Sector Awards added: ‘Class are honoured to support the Third Sector Awards Cymru 2011. The sector has a vital role to play in these difficult times, so it’s important to recognize the tireless efforts of sector members across the country. These awards are a great way of doing that.’
